mock-00209

 But first, all the details.

RELEASE DATE: March 20, 2020! Mark your calendars!
…but you can skip the calendar part if you preorder the ebook on Amazon. You’ll automatically get the best price, and the book will appear right on your device bright and early on release day! (And Amazon is kind enough to notify you, so you can be among the very first to read the book if you wish!)
But do you actually want to preorder already? What is this new book about? Is it worth your time?
ABOUT THE BOOK
Can your busy, stressful reality truly transform into the abundant, restful reality of the kingdom of God? The Bible says yes. Through rest in Christ, your life can be fulfilled, productive, peaceful, and free to give and receive love. But just what is Biblical rest, and how can it seamlessly fuse with your modern life? In Resting Life: Jesus’ Rest for the Busy or Burdened Believer, Bible teacher Erika Mathews addresses this question. Discover the unification of rest with practical daily life, relationships with others, spiritual warfare, ministry, witnessing, prayer, meditation, fruitfulness, and personal abiding. Through understanding and embracing God’s rest, you too will be uplifted, challenged, encouraged, and freed to live life as He intended—within Him.
Now go preorder. 🙂
But why preorder at all? Why not wait until the book is released? Besides the fact that you’ll automatically get the lowest price, and besides the fact that you won’t have to actually remember to order the book later, did you know that preorders stack up and count as sales on release day? Multiple preorders alert Amazon that this book is popular, and the more popular Amazon’s system sees the book is, the more people Amazon will suggest and show it to, and the higher it will rank in what people see. This means this book – and the message of this book – will be able to reach many more people. This is immensely helpful for visibility in the thousands of books for sale. So if you’d like the ebook, preordering is the way to go.
You don’t want the ebook?
There’s a place to preorder a paperback too!
You want to know more about the author first?

About the Book
Ignored by her father…

Adah was neglected by her abba and her brother. She must do something. All her previous plans have failed, but she won’t slip up this time. Since her abba is King David, author of many songs, what better way to gain his attention than pulling off a concert featuring twelve of his daughters?

As she plans, Adah’s discontentment grows. She throws herself into the work but worry edges into her heart anyway. Can Adah learn to rest in Adonai as her father? Will she learn contentment in all things?

Inspired by The 12 Dancing Princesses fairy tale.

A New Cover! Protecting the Poor

At long last… I get to share the cover of “Protecting the Poor” with you!

Ready???

*insert huge, excited grin*

Ah yes… we get to have my favorite color on the cover: green! Plus, it’s not Robin Hood without green (albeit, they’re “Lincoln Green” not quite this shade).

About the Book

Sheriff Feroci is now lord over the province, and Abtshire has become a pit of injustice. Being forced into the lord’s service does not give Dumphey as many opportunities to help the poor as he desires. When attempts on his life drive him into the forest, this freedom opens a world of possibilities for helping others. But how can he do so when he is running for his life? And does God want him to do more than simply feed the poor?

Noel has always hidden behind the shadow of his older brother, Dumphey. When life forces him to stand on his own, will he still follow God in the corrupt world in which he lives? Would God really call him to do something that is beyond his power to do?

As Lord Feroci’s sinister plot comes to light, each lad has a choice to make. A choice that could cost them their lives.

*Happy sigh*
I really do like seeing them all together. It’s really amazing to think that when I first thought up the idea three years ago, “Befriending the Beast” was just going to be a short story stand-alone. 😉 I’m very glad Lia and Dumphey got to join Belle in the series and absolutely cannot wait to share his story with you!!!

And, in a way, I get to start that now!!

Okay, well, maybe not that easily. You see… I want to share a portion of chapter one with you, but you absolutely must and have to read the prologue first!

So visit one of these lovely bloggers to read the prologue (don’t worry, they’ll all have it, so take your pick) THEN come back here and scroll down to read a continuance with chapter one.

CHAPTER ONE PREVIEW

One week later…

Dumphey removed the last of the rye bread from his pouch. He had but a few minutes before they would begin searching for him at the barracks. He knocked on the door of Widow Anith. As soon as he heard footsteps approaching, he laid the bread in a cloth at the doorstep and hurried away. He watched from the shadows as the door opened and a young lass bent down to examine the bread. ’Twas the same lass who always came to the door, no more than four years of age. And, as always, the lass took the bread then looked around—as if making sure a soldier wouldn’t steal it from her—before rushing back inside and shutting the door.
Another lass would not go hungry tonight. Warmth spread through Dumphey as he set off toward the barracks. Eight paces away, he stopped. Unease prickled the back of his neck. ’Twasn’t the first time he felt like he was being followed within this week. He spun around and a sword swiped toward him. He leapt backward. Pain sliced through his arm. He fell to the ground and clutched his left arm. Sticky blood pulsed under his grip.
They were supposed to train with wooden weapons. Not swords and armor. And definitely not fully-armored soldier against unarmed page. Unless
The knight lunged for him. Dumphey rolled, thwarting the attack.
This wasn’t training.
He scrambled to his feet before the knight advanced again. He glanced around for something—anything—to use as a defense. Nothing. He stepped back. He was swifter on his feet than the knight encumbered with armor. But only if he could take his flight when the knight wasn’t expecting it. Curse those wretched helmets with visors. He couldn’t read the knight’s intentions with metal shielding his eyes. He didn’t even know who he was up against. Or why.
Surely the soldiers hadn’t been spying on his actions around Abtshire and reported them to the lord. He had been cautious—hadn’t he? Mayhap not cautious enough. Dumphey sent up a silent prayer that God would protect the families he regularly visited.
They continued in a stalemate, circling each other without making a thrust. Dumphey kept his eye on the maille-covered arm that held the sword. The muscles tightened. He ducked and the blade sliced over his head. Before the knight could make his next move, Dumphey turned and ran. His back was exposed, making him vulnerable, but run or stay, he faced death. He darted between cottages, slipping on trash that littered his way.
The nigh-completed walls of the barracks loomed before him. Just beyond it stood the stables. Dumphey risked a glance behind him. He had lost the knight, at least for the moment. He wove through another cluster of cottages until he reached the side of the stables away from the barracks. He surged through the stables’ open doors and slipped into the shadows before Philaon or Noel noticed him. Sweat soaked his tunic. Invisible spiders crawled up his legs after his sudden race. He closed his eyes and focused on silencing his gasping breaths as he pressed his hand to his wounded arm.
Here, with the comforting sounds of horses and the sweet smell of hay, was a safe haven. A place in which he had yearned to dwell this past year. With everything in him, he was grateful that Noel was still here instead of at the barracks. He had spent every day praying that Lord Feroci wouldn’t force his younger brother into training. ’Twas bad enough, him being coerced to train and fight, when all he yearned for was peace in the land. But he wasn’t given a choice. None of the lads were. They must fight for the lord or face the gallows. None of them could afford to pay Lord Feroci’s conscription fee.
“Ah, there you are, my good lad.” Barat’s tone belied his congenial words.
Dumphey jerked up, fist forming. The lord’s magnate. He held almost as much power as Feroci himself. How did he know to look here?

Cover Reveal: ‘Tis so Sweet by Faith Blum

Once again, I’m here with news of another release by Faith Blum!

I actually got the first look at her cover, as Faith honored me to be her cover designer! Follow Faith’s blog for information as soon as it releases! I’m looking forward to this story, as it features characters from my favorite of her books, Lily of the Valley. Anyway, enough chatting. Behold, the cover!!!

Trusting God is hard
Eleanor Miller has never lacked for anything, but she wanted to become a schoolteacher anyway to instill the love of learning into other children. Unlike what happened with her brother, Grover.
Grover hated school and authority. He rebelled any change he could. When he almost killed a man, their family was torn apart and he was disowned.

Eleanor understands her father’s decision, but she worries she will never see Grover again. Will she find out how sweet it is to trust Jesus in everything no matter what happens or will she stop trusting Him completely?

"Befriending the Beast" | Cover Reveal

I am super excited and thrilled to be able to show everyone my cover for “Befriending the Beast!” To be honest, I designed the cover before the first draft of the story was completed. 😉
Be on the lookout for “Befriending the Beast’s” release! Or … just mark your calendars for September 30!
Oh yeah, that’s right. You’re probably more interested in a new book cover than in my jabbering (because, after all, I like drooling over covers more than reading someone’s exuberance almost any day too 😉 )…
*drumroll*
May I present to you ….

About the Book
Belle has returned unannounced to the castle to restore her relationship with the king, her father. Her hopes are dashed with the devastating message: “The king refuses to see you.” Convinced that God has led her home, she is unwilling to return to Lord and Lady Kiralyn.
Time is running out for the decision that will change her life. When tragedy strikes, will she and her father be pulled further apart or knit together? Could she stay at the castle even if she will never see her father again?

A quick “thank you” to the lovely ladies who joined me with the cover reveal: Jesseca, Janell, Faith, and Kellyn!

The Silent Blade | Cover Design

Have you ever had those times when you just wanted to do something, so randomly prayed, “Lord, I realize I don’t have to do this, but it’d be nice if…” That was me a few weeks ago. Since all of my writing projects are in the baby-stages of planning and writing, I’ve not had a reason to do one of my favorite hobbies: book cover designing. So, I prayed that, if the Lord saw fit, He’d bless me with the opportunity to design a book cover for someone.
Not even a week after that, I beta-read a book by a Goodreads friend, The Silent Blade. Long story short, we ended up discussing covers and such and she hired me to design her cover! I had so much fun going back and forth, getting to know Jesseca and what she liked, AND finding out that a church-member had a sword for me to photograph! (you never know what happens when you post on FaceBook, “Does anyone have…?”) I am very grateful that the Lord allowed me to come up with a cover that Jesseca loves. That makes it completely worth it for me!
Okay, okay, some of you probably skimmed over all of that so you could see the cover (because, after all, if you’re like me, looking at covers is one of the best things ever!). Here it is!

And the full cover:

For those of you who love reading, The Silent Blade will be releasing on July 22, 2016. I may post about it on my blog, but in case not, Jesseca surely will post about it on her blog, so follow her there!

What’s a prayer that God answered for you recently?

The Solid Rock | Cover Reveal, Giveaway, and Interview

You’ve seen Faith Blum on my blog before, and here she is again! 🙂 I was privileged to read The Solid Rock as a beta reader and it sure is full of excitement! Do you want to see the cover? Oh wait…you must gather all fifteen clues first!

About the Book

Joshua woke with a quiet groan. As his senses woke up one at a time, he cracked his eyelids open. Sure enough, there was a silhouetted form standing at the foot of the bed. From the smell, the person was either from the brothel down the street or had recently left one.

He forced himself to breathe evenly and reached for the knife in his thigh holster. With as tough and evil a voice as he could imitate, he spoke, “State your intentions.”

Pinkerton detective, Joshua Brookings, is sent on a job that seems simple on the surface. His fellow detective has been kidnapped and his boss, William Pinkerton senses foul play. Joshua is sent to investigate Edward’s case in hopes of finding the kidnapped detective and helping solve the case that has taken over ten years to investigate.

Arriving in Cheyenne, Joshua finds much more than a simple kidnapping. Yet again, he must go undercover, something he made his boss promise never to make him do again. The only Christian in the outlaw group, Joshua falters and almost loses faith in God’s providence. Will he stand on the solid Rock or drown in the sinking sand?

About the Author

PictureFaith Blum started writing at an early age. She started even before she could read! She even thought she could write better than Dr. Seuss. (The picture doesn’t show it well, but there are scribblings on the page of Green Eggs and Ham). Now that she’s grown up a little more, she knows she will probably never reach the success of Dr. Seuss, but that doesn’t stop her from trying.

When she isn’t writing, Faith enjoys doing many right-brained activities such as reading, crafting, writing, playing piano, and playing games with her family. One of her dreams is to visit Castle City, Montana someday to see the ghost town she chose for her characters to live in. She currently lives on a hobby farm with her family in Wisconsin.

Interview
Me: How long have you known that “The Solid Rock” would be a part of the Hymns of the West series?
Faith: This is a great question! I haven’t always know the title or the exact plot of The Solid Rock, but the first inklings of the idea came when one of my beta-readers for A Mighty Fortressasked if there would be a sequel. My immediate response was, “I wasn’t planning on one.” But then my brain started working and I came up with an idea that Joshua, the main character in both books, becomes a Pinkerton detective and solves some sort of crime. Then I got ideas for the other three books and the timeline worked best to put this book off for last.

Me: What lesson do you most hope and pray readers will be able to learn from “The Solid Rock?”

Faith: No matter what is happening in your life, or how far away God seems, God is always with you and will always be there for you to lean on if you’ll just let Him be your rock and foundation.
Faith: It’s kind of nice and kind of strange at the same time. I’m sad to leave the characters, but I’m also excited about the next series I’m working on. And since the next series will have some of the characters from the Hymns of the West series, I’m not completely leaving them behind. I’m looking forward to where God leads me next.
