He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (1 John 5:12)
Today we like to say, “You haven’t lived until you’ve done (or tried) _______.” Of course, that is just a saying. But the truth is: we have not lived until we have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Savior.

“The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.” (Ezekiel 34:4)
What a responsibility for the pastor is outlined in this verse. It’s interesting to note the order: those in the sheepfold (though diseased, sick, and broken) come first to be ministered unto. Then those astray, then those lost. Interesting the progression: diseased – sick – broken – driven away – lost.

“And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.” (Ezekiel 14:23)
God never moves without purpose or plan but wisely works for His pure and perfect cause.

“And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.” (Ezekiel 5:6)
If we change God’s Word to say what we want it to say and then follow our interpretation, that is but refusing God’s way and walking in our own way. Oh, we must be so careful to be sure that we are following God’s Word and His Word alone!

“Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23)

Ironically, we must believe this verse – we must believe that all things are possible when we believe.

“For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.”(Mark 6:52)

It is almost encouraging to read this of the disciples. Jesus was patient to teach and mold them when their hearts were hard. He did not give up on them at this point, but continued to work in their hearts.

Word Wednesday #37

Mark 5:24-30
24 And Jesus went with [Jairus]; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
In every instance of Jairus’ story, there is the interruption: the woman with the issue of blood. Jesus stopped and patiently tended to the need of the interruption – even though to human eyes, this delay cost the life of Jairus’ daughter. What is it in my life that I think “interruptions” will harm? Do I forget that God is able to fix any “problems” that may result when I follow Him to serve in an interruption?
The rest of the passage (because it’s just amazing!):
31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

“And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.” (Mark 4:24)
We have a responsibility to apply what we hear. The more we apply, the more we’ll be taught.

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (James 1:22)

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.” (Psalm 32:8-9)

God has given us what we need to follow Him . . . but are we stubborn and refusing?
