“. . . in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” (2 Peter 3:16)
Those who wrestle with one part of Scripture will wrestle with other parts. Either we must accept all of Scripture . . . or reject all of it. Where do we stand?

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation;” (2 Peter 3:15a)

This is just a verse to ponder and meditate upon: “And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation;

“And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.” (2 Peter 2:2)
Oh, we see this today. Men denying God (verse 1) and speaking evil of the truth (verse 2). We should be grounding and rooting ourselves more and more in God and His truth. “But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;” (verse 12) “Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray . . .” (verse 15)

A more serious thought for Word Wednesday today, but something that need considering – it’s in God’s Word!

“Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.” (2 Peter 1:15)

Peter felt a burden to help the church remember (“Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;” 2 Peter 1:12-13). He did what he could to help them remember truth while he was alive, but also thought of how to have that reminder available even after he died. He didn’t care if people remembered him, but he did care if they forgot truth.

“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.” 1 Peter 5:10
The grace of God gives us His sufficiency to grow up in Him for His glory.

“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
Fervent charity. Even when others speak evil of us (verse 4). Even when others judge us (verses 5-6).

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)

Saved to live righteously. Not saved to live in freedom how we want.

Word Wednesday #27

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Peter 1:23-25)
Reasons the believers should love God’s Word:
     – we are born again by the Word
     – God’s Word abides forever
     – the Gospel is preached by God’s Word

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” (1 Peter 2:2)

“If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands; Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.” (Job 31:7-8)

This whole chapter is Job’s cry of “If I have done ____, then let me bear the consequences.” Only the purest in heart can truthfully utter these words, willing to bear the iniquity of their wrongs. Am I willing for God to justly judge me for my wrongs?

Word Wednesday #25

“As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?” (Job 21:4)

To whom are we pouring out our troubles? To mere men? Or can we say like David, “I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication.” (Psalms 142:1) Man is not the right source from which to seek true comfort. Yes, God uses men to comfort, but He is the ultimate comforter, able to help and change things.
